At Denise Dancing School our classes are structured around the highly acclaimed ‘Royal Academy of Dance’ which offers an internationally recognised method of training designed to encourage, motivate and reward students of all ages and abilities, whilst outlining a progressive structure for learning and achievement in dance.
For our youngest students the journey into the ballet world begins with the Dance to Your Own Tune curriculum. The classes are fun, artistic & enchanting under the guidance of our inspiring teachers. Suitable for children age 3 to 5 years. The next levels are Pre-Primary and Primary which are full of captivating music, delightful dances & steps. This program is suitable for Ages 5 to 7 years.
We then move on progressing through the Grades , each level is devised with great care to enable children to progress through their training in planned stages, demanding no more on their body than it can cope with. Our dancers just love each and every Grade as their technique develops & they enjoy greater knowledge and love of Classical & Modern Ballet.
For the dedicated ballet dancer the RAD also have their Vocational Graded levels. Students can move from Graded Examinations to Vocational Graded Examinations at an appropriate time, or they can study both pathways simultaneously. Here at DDS we offer classes in the full range of RAD Levels and many students study syllabus work alongside other styles of dance. Students wishing to excel in ballet may transition into the Denise Mantle College of Ballet, applications and auditions accepted from Age 11 years.
This is a new classical ballet performance program it is an innovative new concept in training and assessment from the RAD. Uniquely, the programme includes well-known classical repertoire, meaning students will learn and dance choreography that they have seen on stage, set to music that they know and love. It is suitable for students from age 12 through to adult, the three levels cater for beginners, those with some prior ballet experience, as well as the more advanced dancer.
Our Adult Classes are suitable for those who are new to dance, as well as those returning to classes after a break. Adults of all ages are coming back to ballet: for fitness, for social reasons, or because they have rediscovered their passion by seeing their children dance. Our students enjoy their class for many reasons including not only the physical aspect which include improved flexibility, stronger core, improved posture & toning of muscles etc, but also the pleasure of doing something for themselves socially which relieves stress, is fun, creative and most rewarding . What to wear - Something comfortable you can move easily in (leggings, leotards, shorts), ballet shoes and hair tied back.

Jazz has become one of the most popular dance forms of recent years, mainly due to its popularity in movies, music videos, television shows and commercials. It is a continuously changing and evolving genre which includes many styles such as Broadway, Musical Theatre, Hip Hop, Funk and Lyrical to name a few. People enjoy watching & studying jazz dance, as the dancing is fun and energetic. At DDS we follow the sylabi of the ATOD which includes all styles from the very foundations of Jazz to the very latest moves. The Syllabus was created by the Jazz Moves Core Committee which was released in 2007.
A Jazz Classes consist of -
A warm-up, stretches, floor and corner work, turns, kicks and jumps, historical steps, up to the minute moves, combinations, progressions and dances. Our levels of study progress systematically and are designed to technically develop students to individually reach their full potential, whether at a recreational, professional or teaching level.
All the information for our preschool dancers can be found over at Princess Ballerinas (Jazzerinas).
Tap is one of the most iconic forms of dance. From its beginnings in the back streets of New Orleans to the stars of the silver screen, Tap Dance is timeless & exciting. Full of fitness and artistic charm. In our Tap Dance Classes you learn all the basic steps which are then put together into rhythmical sequences and dances suitable for all ages from our little tappers right through to our adults. Music choices are both modern and traditional and the styles complimentary.
We also follow the new updated ATOD Tap syllabi which is technically based yet modern, having been devised with industry professionals Paul Davis and Shane Preston (former Tap Dogs). Our classes are therefore Tap Training at its best. They will motivate, stimulate and captivate you! Don't miss this exciting opportunity to be involved in Tapping Excellence!
Unlike many exercise classes which work on specific parts of the body, tap dancing is an excellent way to achieve all-round fitness because it strengthens, tones, improves posture and flexibility - and is a great cardiovascular workout into the bargain. Our class begins with a warmup then we progress through our sequences which develop the basic tap ingredients like shuffles, ballchanges, pickups etc. We then work on combos and our dance. Music is traditional & also modern, influenced by the musicals and the legends of this rhythmical style of dance. The aim of our tap classes are to be fun, rewarding, very sociable and a great hobby .... so if you've always dreamed of dancing like Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly or Ginger Rogers, all it takes are a few tap classes to get you on your way to tapping across the dance floor.
This popular form of dance is an electric mix of styles developed during the middle of the twentieth century which has since grown to become one of the dominating performance genres for formally trained dancers throughout the world. Although originally borrowing from classical, modern, and jazz styles, contemporary has since come to incorporate elements from many styles of dance.
Here at Denise Dancing School we follow the innovative ISTD & ATOD systems of training which are carefully structured, ensuring students are learning the most up to date contemporary techniques and styles.
The contemporary genre contains elements of floor work, more movement in the upper body than classical ballet (like contractions, releases, spirals, etc), usually has less focus on turnout and extremely high leg extensions, encourages off balance or counterbalance techniques and often uses improvisation. Ballet students find it an excellent style to compliment their ballet training.
Class requirements: Students must be age 9 years upwards and must attend at least one ballet class per week.
Hip Hop has captured the dance world as the latest dance craze. Hip Hop moves primarily breaking, locking, and popping were created in the 1970s and were made popular by dance crews in the United States. Television shows and films gave hip-hop mainstream exposure.
The dance industry responded with a commercial, studio-based version of hip-hop. Classically trained dancers developed these studio styles in order to create choreography from the hip-hop dances that were performed on the street. Because of this development, hip-hop dance is practiced in both dance studios and outdoor spaces.
Hip Hop is continuing to gain more & more popularity with both boys and girls, who just love the freedom of this movement & its artistic benefit. Hip Hop is so much fun but it is also a great way to get fit and socialise!
Acrobatics is challenging but it is fun and safe under our structured tuition. Everyone loves doing tricks like the splits, cartwheels and back bends etc, but an acro class ensures they are done correctly so that children don't hurt themselves. We offer different levels of acrobats with our experienced qualified tutor whose expertise ensures all of our students accomplish each trick successfully before moving onto the next. From the basic to the advanced there is so much to achieve.
In class students focus on:
- Flexibility which is splits, toes to head, and back bends etc.
- Tricks like Cartwheels, somersaults & aerial skills, forward & back rolls etc.
- Balancing - like head stands & group & partner work.
